Shastadari prefixes are a set of sezimal (base six) prefixes, originally designed to be used with the Shastadari Units;
For the online conversion between Shastadari units and prefixes, and the units and prefixes of the S.I. and other systems, access the Sezimal Calculator;
Shastadari prefixes are formed by combining the letter for each digit, and in some cases the value, of the exponent correspondent to the prefix, in upper case when the prefix is positive, and lower case when negative.
Prefixes’ names are formed by combining an affix, corresponding to the exponent number/value, plus an infix indicating whether the exponent is positive or negative.
Number/Value | Affix | +Exp. Symbol | −Exp. Symbol | Name Origin |
0 | sun | S | s | शून्य /ˈɕuːn̪.jɐ/ ‹śūnya› «zero» |
1 | eka | E | e | एक /'eː.kə/ ‹eka› «one» |
2 | di | D | d | द्वि /d̪vi/ ‹dvi› «two» |
3 | tri | T | t | त्रि /t̪ri/ ‹tri› «three» |
4 | char(1) | C | c | चतुर् /cə't̪ur/ ‹catur› «four» |
5 | pan(2) | P | p | पञ्चन् /'pəɲ.cən/ ‹pañcan› «five» |
10 | sha(1) | X | x | षष् /ʂəʂ/ ‹ṣaṣ› «six» |
100 | ni | N | n | /nif/ ‹nif›, Ndom for thirty-six |
1000 | ar | A | a | अर्ध /'ər.d̪ʰə/ ‹ardha› «half» (of six) |
+ | ma(3) | m(4) | मह /'mə.ɦə/ ‹maha› «abundant, great»
− | ti(3) | i(4) | षष्ठ्य /'ʂəʂ.ʈʰjə/ ‹ṣaṣṭhya› «one sixth»
(1) some languages don’t have the different phonemes ch /tʃ/ and sh /ʃ/, and since both prefixes use the same vowel, we add the ‹r› to char to help differentiate them on those languages, for example French and Portuguese, where both prefixes would be pronounced /ʃa/ without the ‹r›
(2) pan + ma = pama; pan + ni = pani;
(3) ma + a... = ma; charmaanuga = charmanuga etc.; ti + i... = ti; shatiindana = shatindana etc.;
(4) used between the prefix and the unit when letter case can’t be used to indicate the exponent’s sign |
The list of prefixes below covers all the scale range of S.I. prefixes between quetta and quecto, and new prefixes can be made as needed:
